Livery Stable owner and operator, and first post master of Arvada, Colorado-previously a gold prospector and miner. Benjamin Franklin Wadsworth, son of Richard (1784-1850) and Susan Barnes Wadsworth (1795-1854), born in Avon Springs, New York, was a distant relative of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Pioneer to the Arvada, Colorado community, and largely credited with the founding of the city, building the first house (a log cabin) in 1863 on land where Arvada was later plotted and incorporated-Wadsworth Boulevard, a major north-south route in Arvada, is named in his honor. Per the Jefferson , Colorado - Place Names Directory, the Wadsworth & Graves Ditch "has priorities date from Jul 10, 1862." Claimants in 1884 were B. F. Wadsworth and M. E. Graves, Mary Emma, Wadsworth's daughter, married John Palmer Graves, son of pioneer Oliver Graves." Husband of Mary Ann Groves Wadsworth (1827-1898). Father of Mary Emma Wadsworth Graves(1854-1905). Grandfather of Bertha M. Graves [Crooks] (1884-1981); Phillip Eldro Graves (1875-1962); Frank O. Graves (1873-1962): Ernest N. Graves (1880-1954); and, Leonard C. Graves (1877-1912). Great grandfather of James P. Funded the Arvada Primary School, built in 1882, by deeding four lots in 1876 to School District No.2. Named a Hall of Fame Honoree by the Jefferson Historical Commission, 1982. Cause of death: died as the result of injuries from being thrown from his horse drawn buggy when the horse was spooked and/or bitten by a dog. US Census: August 18, 1870 they were living in Jefferson, Colorado Territory he was a farmer. There were 2 children listed.
