HIRAM, Maine - James A. Moulton, 80, of 84 Douglas Road, died unexpectedly at his home on Oct. 8, 2000. He was born on Mar 9, 1920, in Hiram, the son of Herbert and Ethel Clemons Moulton. Moulton was educated at Mt. Cutler School in Hiram and graduated from Fryeburg Academy as valedictorian in 1939. He graduated with highest distinction from the University of Maine in Orono in 1943 with a major in animal husbandry. He attended graduate school at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Moulton was a lifelong farmer who raised registered Hereford cattle with his brother, Elwin. He was a member of the Hiram Congregational Church, and a lifetime member of the Mt. Cutler Grange, as well as the National Grange. He enjoyed watching and participating in sports, and following local and national politics. He was very civic minded, and he served on the Hiram School Board, appeals board and budget committee. Moulton was the great, great, great grandson of Gen. Peleg Wadsworth, of Revolutionary War fame. He was a devoted husband and father, and was kind, caring, quiet and studious. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Murphy and five brothers, Harold, Lester, Robert, Elwin and Arthur Moulton. Surviving him are his wife of 42 years, M. Susan Douglas Moulton of Hiram; two daughters, Margaret E. Moulton of North Conway and Amy L. Wentworth of Hiram; two sons, James D. Moulton of Hiram and Nathan E. Moulton of Windham; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Force of Harpswell and Helen Haines of Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Hiram Community Church on Hancock Avenue in Hiram. Pastor Beverly Blaisdell will officiate. Donations may be made to Sacopee Rescue, P.O. Box 367, Parsonfield, Maine 04047. Arrangements are by Neal and York Funeral Home of Kezar Falls.
