Eliot Furness PORTER

Nature photographer. Elliott Porter, as a photographer, used primarily color film, where the majority of his fellow photographers used black and white film. He recorded many animals, especially fowl. Authoring two dozen books on the subject of birds, he received several awards. He was presented an honorary degree from the University of New Mexico in 1987. Porter died from heart complications due to ALS and is buried in Great Spruce Head Island, Maine Southwest nature photographer, he authored almost 2 dozen books of photography. He received an honorary degree from the University of New Mexico in 1987. He died of a cardiac arrest and ALS. Porter earned degrees in chemical engineering and medicine, and worked as a biochemical researcher at Harvard University.Porter served as a director of the Sierra Club from 1965 to 1971.[5] He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1971. He bequeathed his personal archive to the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
