Roberta M. Howden, age 85 of McMinnville, died on May 26, 2009 at Oakwood Country Place. Funeral services for Roberta Howden will be held on Tuesday, Jun 2, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Macy & Son, with a reception to follow. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR. Roberta was born Mar 20, 1924 in Spokane, WA., and raised in Portland. Highly musical, she played several instruments including wind instruments and keyboards. She played accordion in the school marching band, and graduated from Commerce (now Cleveland) High school. She married Lynn Howden on Sep.19, 1942, in Long Beach Ca. While working as a secretary and a homemaker, she helped her husband build three houses and raise three sons. Lynn and Roberta were active in the Portland branch of the Postal Employee's Union, and attended numerous conventions. They, along with others were instrumental in getting uniform allowances for postal workers nationwide. Always artistic, she enjoyed oil painting, interior decorating, flower arranging, and quilt making. Socially, she was active in the Garden club, and Honored by the Eastern Star. She moved from Portland in 1970, she lived in Dundee until retiring to Lincoln City in 1988. A resident of McMinnville for the last six years, she is survived by her husband Lynn, and three sons; Ron, a resident of Forest Grove, Dean, of McMinnville, and Eric, from Yamhill. There are five grand children, and four great grand children.
