Warner,1997, Penobscot Press. pp.4-5 112 - Dr. Ephraim Warner, second son of John Warner Sr. of Waterbury(also called John Jr. of Farmington), born about 1669, died Waterbury,Connecticut 30AUG1753 (Waterbury gs) ae 84. Distribution of estate is recorded1762(Waterbury probate rec). He mar in Waterbury, Connecticut 16 Aug1692(Waterbury VR) Esther Richards, daughter of Obadiah and Hannah (Andrews)of Waterbury. Hannah Andrews was daughter of John and Mary (from Cutter'sConnecticut Genealogy). His first grant of land in Waterbury was on the northeast corner ofWillow and Grove Streets made 21 Jan 1690, on condition that he should"erect a house and co-inhabit it for 4 yrs." There he built his house andresided until 1701, his next house being on a flat of 42-1/2 acres onBuck's Hill. This he exchanged 21 Feb 1704 for another house and 2 lotsof land. He received his 40-pound right 18 Mar 1801, and soon removed toWoodbury. In the latter town he was associated with his younger brotherEbenezer, who was also a physician. He continued practice there untilApril 1714, when the town of Waterbury passed the following vote: "Thetown, to encourage Dr. Ephraim Warner to come and live with us, grant himthe use of the school land for three years (only one-half the lot inHancox's meadow is exempt this year), he to maintain the fence." Theyalso voted him ten acres in the "sequester" on the condition that heremain four years. He is not called Doctor on the records until December1706 and he probably removed to Waterbury in response to the vote abovequoted, being then called a practitioner. After his returnto that town,he became one of its notable men, bought and sold real estate to a largeextent, and was much engaged in public business. He appears to havesettled in Buck's Hill with several of his sons, to whom he gave housesand lots. He served as townsman, school committee, town collector, deputyto the general court in May 1717, May 1719, May and Oct 1720, and May1722. As early as 1722 he was chosen Captain of the train band, being thesecond thus distinguished, and was moderator of the town meeting in 1730.His estate was first settled by agreement with the heirs, ratified byorder of probate in 1762. Much of it was given to his children during hislifetime. Ephraim Warner had his first grant of land 21 Jun 1689/90 on thenortheast corner of Willow and Grove Streets, in Waterbury, Connecticut oncondition that he should erect a house and inhabit it for four years. Hebuilt and resided till about 26 SEP 1701 when he sold it to StephenWelton. He nexthad a house and 42-1/2 acres of land on Bucks Hill whichhe exchanged 21FEB 1703/4 with Benjamin Warner for a house and four acresof land in two pieces on each side of Cook Street in Waterbury. Here heresided on the West side till he had received his 40 pound right whichwas granted 18 Mar 1701, then moved to Woodbury in 1714. He returned,became a physician or practitioner of the town, Dr. Porter being surgeonor bone setter. He settled on Buck's Hill. InAugust 1733 he conveyed tohis son Ebenezer half his house, the north end, 20 acres of land on eastside of road, and half the barn, the black-smith and use of tools. He hadto pay his brother Ephraim 20 pounds in labor in 12 months. In Apr 1738he had moved down to the village to Cook and Grove Streets, Waterbury. Atthat date for 20 pounds he deeded the place of 3-1/2 acres of land to thegrantor reserving the use of one half the property during his life andthat of his wife. After he quit claimed 1742 to Ephraim, then ofFarmington, the whole property, Dr. Warner, after returning to Waterbury,became a notable citizen of that town. Bought and sold real estate. Wastownsman, school committee and town collector, GEneral Court in May 1717,May 1719, May and Oct 1720 and May 1722, and MOderator of the townmeeting 1730. As early as 1722 he was chosen captain of the train band.Benjamin Warner, eldest son of Dr. Ephraim was born 30 Sep 1698. Wasaccepted as a 40-pound proprietor 23 DEC 1715 (From Nettie L.
