He attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH (1930-1931) 18 Jan 1932 he was elected Preceptor (2) of the Frank E. Peck Chapter, Order of DeMolay in Oberlin. "Gordon Comings received an appointment and began work Monday as stock clerk for the Federal Emergency Administration, Public Works, stationed at Administration headquarters in the new Postoffice (sic) Building, Columbus." Chronicle Telegram [Elyria, OH], 15 Mar 1939) "Changes Position Gordon Comings who was formerly employed by the Colson Company of Elyria, has accepted a position with the Fred Proctor Company of Cincinnati, blank book printers. His territory will be the northwestern part of Ohio." (Chronicle Telegram, 8 Jan 1950) Obituary: College Sports Aide Dies at 43 Oberlin -- Gordon (Rusty) Comings, 43, equipment manager and supervisor of training in the department of physical education at Oberlin College, died late last night in Allen Hospital after an illness of four months. His home was at 249 North Main St. Mr. Comings was born in Oberlin Feb. 24 1916 and had lived in this community all his life. He was the son of Mrs. Charles R. Comings, and the late Charles R. Comings, a former mayor of Oberlin and operator for many years of the former Comings and Sons Book Store. A graduate in 1934 of Oberlin High School, Mr. Comings was known throughout the as a star basketball player during his high school days. He had continued an active interest in the school's athletic program during his adult years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Young Men's Club of Oberlin. Survivors are his wife Marion (Edwards) Comings; two sons, Andrew Gordon and Charles Arthur, both at home; his mother and three brothers, Lea and Fred, both of Oberlin, and Eugene, Bowling Green. Friends will be receive at the Cowling-Stang Funeral Home tomorrow from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Joseph King will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery. (Chronicle Telegram [Elyria, OH], 15 Jan 1960)
