PA to cincinnati then to Cassville 1837 with parents and siblings. was a smelter at Sugar river Diggings, green co. WI. followed older brother benjamin franklin forbes to California let WI 8 apr 1850, traveled by covered wagon, and shows up inthe 1850 census, Dry creek, el dorado co. Came to California with a man named Hayward,and a mule. they were going to split 50-50. but for the mule.(pos source for son's Hayward's name. HE possibley went with brother, Jared and several years later, show up in Forbestown. "Benjamin was in the Mercantile business at forbestown and one day a strager, seedy looking in appearance, walked into the store. He wanted a suit of clothes and announced his willingness to work for him.the proprietor asked where he came from and the stranger said "Wisconsin". this aroused the formers interest and he inquired what part. the latter told him. the merchant then asked if he knew the Forbes. the stranger told him he hadheard of them. "There", said the proprietor, "are the clothes, go and pick outwhat you want." the stranger who knew it was his brother all the time he was speaking to him, then disclosed his identity. the other did not recognize his younger brother readily as he was eleven years older." In 1853 Ben's business transferred to James, when ben returned to WI He owned "Untied States Hotel" in Forbestown, prospered well, but then 28 jan 1860 the hotel burned in Forbestown fire, lost $3,000. 1870 stae driver in Brownsvile, Ca Butte co. from son's charles forbes obit 1883, age 30, soon after charle's birth his father moved to the foothills, his present location and engaged in ranchin, teaming, and stock raising. This may have been "Moore's Station" as his daughter was married at herparents home at "Moore's Station".
