Notes for this person
After graduation from college, he went to North Carolina, engaging in teaching and mercantile business for a period of two years. During this time, his health began to deteroriate due to malarial fever and he returned to Maine. With his health only partially restored, he engaged in farming and teaching, abandoning the law for which he had spent some time in study. In 1852, he made arrangements with Samuel H. Thurston, first delegate from Oregon to Congress, to be a law partner in his office in oregon. The death of Thurston on his return from Washington, however, broke this arrangement. Isaac wadsworth remained on the west coast for five more years, returning to Maine in Dec 1852. He held numerous positions in both local and state politics. he was a member of the State Legislature in 1864 and 1877. He was on the State Valuation Commission in 1880 and was also connected with the State Educational Department.
