Andrew migrated from England to America in 1632-33. He came on the ship "Lyon". The ship left London about August 23 and arrived at Nantucket, on Nov 2. There was 60 passengers. Recorded.....Planters of the Commonwealth--1620 - 1640 While Andrew was growing up in England, he received some education and helped his father, John, in the tillage of the soil. As an adult, Andrew acquired some property while still in England, for soon after reaching America he became a landowner. The first direct mention of Andrew in America is an entry in the town records of Cambridge, Massachusetts, then known as "Newtowne". The entry reads as such: "Andrew Warner, 20 Rod". (regarding the erection of houses in the town and division of the pale or fence to enclose the common, with the number of rods each settler was to build). In Jan 1634, Andrew bought one piece of "swampe ground by the 'ould field " and a little later another piece of three acres in the division of planting around in the Neck. Andrew was appointed on a committee of five to survey the Town lands and enter them in a book in Feb 1634. Andrew was chosen by the citizens of Cambridge to act for the town in making records of the lands and reporting them to the colonial officials. On May 14th, 1634, Andrew was made a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. On Nov 23, 1635, Andrew was the third of nine persons "Chosen to order business of the whole Towne for the year following and untell new bee Chossen in their rooms,. . . . wch nyne are to haue the power of the whole Towne as those formerly Chossen hadd." During Queen Elizabeth's Reign, Puritanism appeared. Toward the close of her life, the prosecution of the puritans, which were non-conformists to the established church, became severe and under her successor, James I it became worse for both in civil and religious affairs. James I assumed all the power of Church and State and commenced a pitiless warfare against the Puritans. Rev. Thomas Hooker was a brilliant preacher who opposed the policy. He had many followers. Andrew was one. Hooker had a powerful influence in all parts of England. Hooker escaped to Holland while his followers migrated to America. Hooker arrived in America in Sep 1633 and became the pastor of the Cambridge Church which was made up of most of his followers. Andrew followed Hooker to Hartford later and became a deacon in the church. Andrew sold his house and his lands in the town of Cambridge and moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1636. Here like in Cambridge, Andrew was a important person in the new town. He bought lands and built. In 1659, Andrew moved with 59 others to the area of Hadley, Massachusetts. The town of Hadley begins. Andrew became active in this new town as it was being established. Andrew had a business as a Malster and was in the brewing business. His business continued for 130 years. Andrew was a pillar of the church, a founder of a new state, and a member of an early settlement of this country. Andrew has no marker on his grave but a near by mountain is named for him. ANDREW WARNER came from Hatfield, Co. Gloucester, son of John Warner, yeoman in said Shire and Town; Cambridge, 1632, freeman May 14, 1634; one of the Commissioners for ordering affairs at Connecticut, Mar, 1635? 6; an original proprietor at Hartford, where his home? lot in 1639 was on the south bank of the Little River. He m. in Hartford, prob. as second wife, Hester, widow of Thomas Selden; he was chosen Deacon of the First Church, Oct., 1633; removed to Hadley in 1659, with Wm. Markham, of Hadley, called Nathaniel Ward uncle, and had much estate from him.From old acct. book of Jabez Warner, of Middletown, b. 1710, quoted by Andrew F. Warner in letter to R. R. Hinman, May 14, 1849.Savage thinks that the name should be that of Andrew Ward Elder Goodwin and the "withdrawers;" took the oath of allegiance at Hadley, Feb. 8, 1679, and d. there Dec. 18, 1684, or possibly the month following, a. almost 90. His widow, Hester, d. 1693.
