Matilda 1878-1975 was the daughter of J. Peter and Barbara Zwick 1846-1933 of Bavaria Germany. She was born in Burkhart, Ohio in Monroe Co. In 1880 her parents moved to Walla Walla with thier(their) 9 children. Peter 1866-1899 - Mary Ann 1868-1936, Kate 1869-1972, Simon 1871-1941, Barbara 1873-1910, Michael 1876-1949, Matilda 1878-1975, Anna 1880-1961, and Clara 1882-1904.In 1883they came to Klickitat Co. Here 2 more children were born, James 1888-1966 and Joseph 1891-1918.Matilda grew up in the sparsely-settled section ans sometimes large droves of Indians passedthrough and smaller groups often stopped and were welcomed and fed. Land settlers also shared the Kuhn hospitality.Matilda attended the Kuhn school 1884-1891 - and then traveled off toboarding school 1891-1893. She qualified for teaching and taught. In 1899 she filed for a homestead in the Six Prong country. She packed supplies on horseback and spent long nights with soundsof coyotes and wind howling around the shack. She often told of the beauty of the country and the good neighbors get togethers such as quilting bees, basket socials etc.In 1906 she wasmarried to Henry Henricks (1872-1923) from Essen Germany. After 2 years on the Homestead they purchased a farm in The Dalles Ore. They had 6 children: Henry 1907-1932, Barbara (me) 1910, Mary1912-1970, Edward 1915 and twins Joseph and John 1919. In later years Matilda made her home with her daughter (me). She passed away March 7, 1975 at age 97. She also had good care from Mary wholived in her house previous to Mary's death.
