[Josh Aslinger.FTW] Clever Aslinger, the brother to our great-great grandfather Joshua, joined the Ninth Tennessee Calvary in Nashville on August 13, 1863. Hewas now an 18 year old Pvt. in Company A and enrolled for a period ofthree years. For the dates August 12- October 31 he was not listed aspresent or absent. On May 31, 1864 it lists him on the list ofdeserters. It says that he deserted on August 20, 1863 in Nashville,TN. The record goes on to say that the date of desertion was August 10,but he wasn't mustered in until the 13th. Clever apparently left this unit and went to Huntsville to join theinfantry. He made it to Huntsville and enrolled September 17, 1863. Whoknows what his motivation or reasons were, maybe the calvary reallywasn't for a poor Tennessee farm boy. Clever was now a Pvt. in CompanyC, 7th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry, USA. On the remarks section itstates that he had travelled 110 miles. He asked for and received atransfer from this unit to another Infantry unit October 10, 1862. He isnow a Pvt. in the 1st East Tennessee Infantry by order of Major GeneralH.S. Wright Commanding Department of the Ohio. His age was not given. This is the last records that can be found on him. No records areavailable from his stint with the 1st East Tennessee.
