In the Kirchenbuch (Catholic Book) 1647-1903, Katholische Kirche Morscheid (Morscheid's Catholic Church) in Morsheid,Rheinland, Prussia church records it shows Carl was named Carolus when he was born, then they changed his name to Carl. When he immigrated to the United States he called himself Charles which is American for Carl. He must have changed his name to Charles before his son Charles was born because his son put his name as Charles Schieber Jr in their family Bible page which is in possession of Eric JSr and his son as Charles Jr . We think it is because when they immigrated to the US, they wanted to change to the American way of spelling and saying the US way for Carl.

Family records stated his name was Carl, but other records I have found on him like census records and such show him as Chas or Charles. The family Bible for Charles and Sophia shows Charles as Jr. My husband and I think Charles is the American version of Carl and when he came here they probably changed his spelling to the American version - Terry Olsen

Their parents were John Schieber and AltaRay Phillips Schieber, both born in Ohio. That's as far as I've gotten on the Schiebers. If any of this is familiar we would appreciate hearing back from you - especially my mother. Her father died when she was seven and she has a younger sister that she would like to meet.
