Lancelot war Doktor der Theologie. Er wurde vom Kapitel der Domherren von Béthun, dem er angehörte, zum Papst Eugen geschickt, wo er seine Verdeinste und Doktin so glänzend darstellt, dass er zum "Auditeur de rote" berufen und zum Bischoff von Nice (Nizza) ernannt wurde (Genealogie S. 161/162)
