Er ging anfangs zu Eger, dann zu Amberg bis in die dritteGymnasialklasse, widmete sich hernach der Pharmazie und etablierte sich1805 auf der Klosterapotheke in Waldsassen. Dort blieb er bis 1836, wo erdie Apotheke seinem jüngsten Sohn Franz übergab und eine Filialapothekein Wiesau errichtete. 1862 verlegte er sie nach Mitterteich und verkauftesie später. Er hatte fünf Kinder: Joseph (1806-1872), Anton (als Studentverstorben), Franz (1813-1860, übernahm die väterliche Apotheke),Franziska (blieb unverheiratet und führte ihrem Vater den Haushalt) undSusanne (1819-1843).
