[Krug-Grunwald-Tree.GED] PFC. Melvin G. Krug was killed in action during WWII, June 8 1944. Melvinattended school Van Dyne for 2 years, moved with family to Town ofEmpire-Blaine School & St. Paul's Luth.-Forest. Assoc. with father inconstruction until he enlisted in the Army on Aug 1941. Shortlytransferred to Panama Canal Zone. Overseas in Oct. 1943-trans. from Indiato Burma Jan. 1944. He had Malaria, and reports said until was calledout in error. Was 25 years when he was killed 8 June, 1944 in Myitkhima,Burma. He had spent 30-day furlough with his family Aug. 1944, left forIndia Oct. 1943 and to Burma Jan. 1944, Myitkhima had fallen, conqueredby hard-bitten Allied troops who in 10 weeks overcame monsoon, jungle &3,000 Japanese troops defending W. Burma base vital to reopening LedeRoad back to China. Remnents of 18th Japanese Division wiped out withbazookas, flame throwers,heavy artillary & mortars in final hours of theseige. Melvin was member of the famous Merrill's Mauraders.. he isre-interred US Military Cemetery at Myithzina, Burma and Dec 6, 1948paper states body returned aboard transport Dalton Victory & re-interredin Forest Cemetery, in the Town of Forest, FDL, Wisconsin. There is aU.S. War Marker which states he was KIA-WWII.
