EngagementABT 1865. Medjedel, Palestine. Note: She was engaged to Ludwig Hipp of Mägerkingen Germany, who had joined a group of Templars who had migrated to Palestine in 1865, to settle in Medjedel on the west slopes of the hills of Nazareth.His first efforts at farming were so successful that others joined in 1866, followed by more in 1867. Martha Beck was amongst this latter group. Hipp and many of the settlers had come down with Malaria. He died on 18 Sep 1867 and was buried in Medjedel. The majority of the group also died. The survivors then moved to Samunieh, but still people got sick and died. Martha Beck moved to Jaffa, where she died on 1 Nov 1868.. Source Templar Warte No.12 1933. Reference Number. Note: I663.
