Clarence Emeigh Bittner, 83, Meyersdale, passed away June 23, 2009, at his home. Born April 22, 1926, in Meyersdale. A son of the late Edward L. and Nellie M. (Emeigh) Bittner. Also preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Bittner and Dorothy Bittner; two brothers, Edward Bittner, and Donald “Mike” Bittner; and son-in-law, Mark E. Brant. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel J. (Miller) Bittner; two daughters: Theresa E. Baer, wife of Raymond E., Meyersdale; and Renee M. Raupach, wife of Michael C. Sr., Garrett; grandchildren: Jennifer C. Baer Hurl, wife of Martin, Meyersdale; Jason E. Baer, Meyersdale; Amber N. (Brant) Lavan, wife of Adam, Berlin; Autumn M. (Brant) Childers, wife of George, Friedens; Carter T. Raupach, Garrett; and Michael C. Raupach Jr., Michigan; three great-grandchildren: Jacob E. Baer, McKenzie E. Baer and Halle B. Childers; three sisters: Lois Werner, Meyersdale; Shirley Ewen, California; and Delores “Dutch” Laderer, Florida; and two brothers, Vernon “Ike” Bittner and Duane “Joe” Bittner, both of Meyersdale. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Clarence retired from the Chessie System Railroad in 1985 after working for 32 years as a conductor. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Meyersdale, American Legion Charles E. Kelly Post 112, and VFW Post 3504. An avid woodworker and gardener whose energetic nature and lively stories provided countless laughs to his many friends over the years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was always happiest when each and every family member could be gathered around the table for Sunday dinner. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, with Pastor Frank E. Harpster III and the Rev. Ralph G. Landis Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church Roof Fund, 355 Center St., PO Box 88, Meyersdale, PA 15552. Arrangements by the William Rowe Price Funeral Home Inc., Meyersdale.
