Francis Egan
Army veteran
Francis Joseph Egan, 91, a resident of Branford, Conn. since 1972, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2007 at Talmadge Park Health Care Center, East Haven, Conn.
He was born in Avella on Nov. 15, 1915, a son of the late Michael and Catherine (Sheehan) Egan.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bette (Phillips) Egan, in 1967; his son, Francis Egan Jr.; and
his two brothers, Thomas and James Egan.
Mr. Egan grew up in Coraopolis and was a member of St. Joseph Church. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in both World War II and Korea.
He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, retiring in 1968.
After his military career, he worked at Cerro Wire and Cable, a Rockbestos company in New Haven, Conn., as manager of traffic and warehouse until his retirement in March of 1987.
He was Past Commander of the New Haven Chapter, Military Order of World Wars, a member of the Knights
of Columbus and a communicant of St. Therese Church, Branford.
He is survived by two children and their spouses, Major Christopher Egan, ret. U.S. Air Force, and his wife,
Barbara, of Puyallup, Wash. and Patricia (Egan) Eschrich and her husband, Mark, of Branford, Conn.; six
grandchildren Kevin Egan and wife Yayoi, Lauren Hunt and husband Ken, Katherine Egan, Kenneth, Brian
and Jennifer Eschrich; his sister, Mary Egan of Moon Township; and two sisters in law, Dorothy Egan of
Morrisville, N.C. and Marie Egan of Coraopolis.
Friends were received at Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Church, with the Rev. Daniel Vallecorsa officiating.
Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
