Edward A. Palmer, 86, of South Park, formerly of Baldwin Boro, died Tues., Jan. 25, 2011. Husband of 63 years to Mildred (Davidson) Palmer; father of Cheryl (Dan) Densmore and David (Sharon) Palmer; grandfather of William, Alan and Kathryn Densmore and David and Nicholas Palmer. Predeceased by 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Member, Whitehall United Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir for 48 years. He passed his love of music to his children and grandchildren. He was a 50 year member of Dallas Masonic Lodge #231 and retired from LTV after 35 years service. U.S. Army, WWII veteran, 82nd Airborne, the 551st Parachute Infantry Battn. in Europe. He received a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze stars and a WWII Victory Medal. Ed's hardest fought battle was the Battle of the Bulge on the morning of Jan. 7, 1945 with 800 officers and men, of which only 114 remained when the 551st liberated the town of Rocheival that ended the war. Slater Funeral Home, Brentwood. Interment with military rites, Jefferson Memorial Park.
