Nelson Frederick METZ

ALTON - Nelson F. Metz Sr., 76, died at 8:27 a m. Monday, July 18,1994, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. The son of the late Frederick S. and Hazel (Wilhite) Metz was bom on Feb. 8, 1918, in Alton. A U.S Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 126 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 254, both in Alton and the Community Stamp Club in Roxana. He was with the maintenance department and a member of the Machinists Union at Olin Corp. in East Alton for 20 years. He retired in 1971. He married the former Hattie B. Frazier on Jan. 24,1942, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Freda C. Stanley of Alton; two sons, Nelson F. Metz Jr. of Alton and Joseph F. Metz of Hanover Park; IO grandchildren, Rebecca, Christina and Angela Stanley and Monica, Gretchen, Sarah, John, Amie, Melissa and Toni Metz; and a sister, Lucille Farthing of San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Koehne, and a brother, Robert J. Metz. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Burke Funeral Home in Alton, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a m. Thursday at St Patrick’s Church in Alton. Father Craig MacMahon will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to masses or Marquette Catholic High School in Alton.
