Bowled in seven ABC national tournaments
FRANKLIN _ James Walter Viele, 87, of Sugar Valley Lodge, formerly of
1341 Chestnut, Franklin, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Venango Manor.
He was born in Franklin on June 2, 1910, a son of the late James
Hunter Viele and May Ferringer.
He was a manager of Bohlender and Johns Tobacco and Candy Wholesale
and attended the First Baptist Church of Franklin.
He was a graduate of Franklin High School and was a life member of
the BPOE Lodge 110, having been a member for more than 50 years.
Mr. Viele was an avid bowler and bowled in seven ABC national
tournaments. In high school, he played on the Franklin High basketball
team when it won the Allegheny Valley//Kiski High School state
tournament.
He was preceded in death in 1986 by his wife, Pauline E. Mowrey,
whom he married on May 8, 1936. He was also preceded in death by two
brothers, Ray and Carl Viele; and three sisters, Florence Kinsky,
Josephine Viele and Helen O'Neil.
He is survived by a son, James Todd Viele and his wife, Bonita, of
Hubbard, Ohio; a daughter, Marcia Morelli and her husband, Dominick, of
Lutz, Fla.; a brother, Richard Viele of Franklin; a granddaughter,
Jamie Viele-Moon; and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert
W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. A service there
Saturday at 11 a.m. will be officiated by the Rev. Peter A. Foreman of
the First Baptist Church of Franklin.
Burial will be at Franklin Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Venango County.
