Donald A. Staib
WARDSBORO — Donald A. “Don” Staib, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Grace Cottage Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born June 24, 1933, in Bethel, Connecticut, the son of Harold and Evelyn (Frede) Staib.
He graduated from Bethel High School.
Mr. Staib served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was self-employed as a general contractor in the Bethel/Danbury, Connecticut, area prior to moving to Wardsboro where he continued his business with his son, Kirby Staib & Father General Contracting.
He married Joan Cole on Nov. 24, 1962, in Wardsboro.
Mr. Staib enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and his camp in Averill.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Lonnie Staib of Baneberry, Tennessee; a sister, Betty Lou Hallock of Danbury, Connecticut; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son and daughter, Laurie and Donald Staib Jr., who died in a house fire; a son, Kirby Staib, who died Oct. 18; three siblings, Evelyn Bailey, Delwin and Harold Staib.
The graveside service for Mr. Staib and son Kirby will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in West Wardsboro Cemetery, followed by a reception at Wardsboro Town Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wardsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue, PO Box 151, Wardsboro, VT 05355; or Grace Cottage Hospital, P.O. Box 216, Townshend, VT 05353.
