News-Times, The (Danbury, CT) — Saturday, December 6, 1997 George ''Moe'' Conrad, 76, former owner of Moe's West Street Shell Gas Station in Danbury, died Thursday at Mediplex Health Care Center in Danbury.
Mr. Conrad, of 3 Michaud Road, was the husband of Genevieve Staib Conrad.
Born in Westport, May 14, 1921, he was a son of Merritt and Mardel Davis Conrad.
Mr. Conrad was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy with the Battery B 963rd Field Artillery Battalion in the European theater.
Before owning and operating Moe's Gas Station, Mr. Conrad had been employed as a plumber for Con Rail Railroad.
For more than 40 years, he had been involved with the Danbury Racing Arena as pit steward. He also enjoyed bowling.
Mr. Conrad was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Lee Hartell Memorial Chapter and a volunteer for the Danbury Soap Box Derby.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Peter Merritt Conrad of Dolton, Ill.; a brother; four sisters; two grandsons; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
CALLING HOURS: Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
SERVICES: Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home in Danbury. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
