Their son, August, was born in Waldenburg.. Immanuel Lutheran church records, Waldenburg, Mi. In 1878, they moved to Norman Road in Goodland Township, Lapeer County, Mi. August was the Goodland Township Teasurer from 1898 to 1900. He was also a Justice of the Peace in 1885 (filling a vacancy) and again in 1890 (filling a vacancy) August was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland that was dissolved in the 1920's. He then attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Capac, Mi. The following is his Obit. Mr. August Schuneman was born Nov. 9, 1849 in Germany. He came to America in the year of 1870 at the age of 21 years. His first home here in America, he made at Waldenburg, Macomb Co., Mi, where in 1874 he was united in holy matrimoney to Miss Sophia Alwardt. To this union were born eleven children, eight of which are still alive. Seven sons and one daughter: August, John, Albert, Herman, William, Lewis, Chas. and Emma Werth. He moved to Goodland in 1878, where he lived until the time of his death. His wife Sophia passed away in 1915 . Since then he has made his home with his children. Mr. Schuneman enjoyed good health all of his life. In recent days he suffered a severe hemorrhage of the lungs and succumbed to the results of a stroke and passed away at 4 o'clock a.m. April 14, 1925 at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 5 days. He leaves to mourn: eight children, seven sons and one daughter and 12 grandchildren. The deceased was one of the pioneer members of the Emmanuel's Lutheran Church at Goodland. He was regular in his attendance at services. One more of the fathers is gone. So much more it becomes necessary for the children to take their place in church. The Emmanuel's Lutheran Church misses him, the community misses him. The lives of our pioneer settlers are growing thinner and thinner. Our tribute of thanks for what they have done for us. They shouldered the toils and cares of the early days. They cleared the forests, they transformed the wilderness into a habitable place. The themselves soon have passed away but their work and its friction have a permanent value. Funeral servies were held Thursday, April 16, at 1:00 o'clock at the Schuneman homestead and at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran Church at Goodland. Interment was make at the Imlay City cemetery. Rev. F. Engelhart officiated. * Fred Schuneman's scrapbook.
