1 Details: CARLENE MABEL (ARNOLDINI) WENDEL, 68 LAKELAND - Carlene Mabel (Arnoldini) Wendel, 68, passed away on September 30, 2015, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Lakeland, FL. Carlene was born on June 8, 1947, in Kenosha, WI, to Charles Arnoldini and Irene (Fechner) Arnoldini. Carlene graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing (Phoenix, AZ), and Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. She completed a program through All Children's Hospital (St. Petersburg, FL) to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. She worked with premature, sick and life-threatened neonates the majority of her nursing career. Carlene suffered a massive stroke October 2, 2011, and for the following years she courageously tried to recover, which she did exceedingly well for the first 2 years. She was never unable to speak, but regained ability to walk with cane assistance after working very hard the first 6 months with physical therapists and family non-stop. Her decline began about 2 years later when her mother, Irene passed of cancer, during her grieving process, her energy working toward recovery began to dwindle. In late 2015, she was admitted in the out-patient clinic of Good Shephard Hospice when she became ill, and from there was moved over to hospice portion where she was taken off of vital medications and subsequently passed away. But she was still such a presence. What a lightening bolt Carlene was while she was here. If a color had to be picked to describe her it would be red! She was fiery, passionate, opinionated, a fighter for the underdog, brilliant, full of vibrance, determination and gorgeous until her dying day. She loved her job caring for babies, and saved many a new life (and mothers). She enjoyed her Harley motorcycles, Har-ley clothes and was such a free spirit cruising down the highway. Carlene loved animals, especially cats, and she generously supported the SPCA. Her home was a smorgasbord and watering hole for many homeless felines, each of whom got an initial visit to the SPCA for vaccination shots and neutering/ spaying. Her most precious possession was her daughter, Carli. Carlene loved her family, and she has the most wonderful, constant, dedicated, faithful, loving and generous friends who remained steadfast and supportive throughout her life, and especially the last years when she fought so hard to recover. A testament to the kind of friend Carlene was as well. A memorial service will be held on December 30, 2015. Please see Carlene Arnoldini Wendel memorial page on Facebook, or text (813)541-6669 for details.
