Details: Margaret Dorothea Ginzel, 86 Obituaries Daily Gazette, The (Schenectady, NY) - Sunday, August 5, 2007 Margaret Dorothea Ginzel (Hatwig) passed away at St. Clare's Hospital on July 27, 2007. Dorothea was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on October 25, 1921. She was the eldest daughter of William A. and Margaret (Becker) Hartwig. Dorthea graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL, attended Northwestern University and graduated from the Chicago Art Institute where she met fellow artist, Arthur B. Ginzel. They married in 1947 and lived 47 happy years together until his death. They raised two daughters in Somers, NY, where they were surrounded by their artistic friends and family. Along with being an accomplished fine artist, Mrs. Ginzel taught art in the Somers public schools. She was an activist for peace and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Somers until she moved to Schenectady after her husband's passing. Dorothea resided there with her eldest daughter, Bronwen Murdock until her death. In 2004, Dorothea joined her youngest daughter, Katherine in the practice of Nichiren Buddhism and became a member of Soka Gakkai International. Her Buddhist friends were a great support to her and her family. Dorothea was devoted to her family and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She lived a selfless life with a gentle grace and ease. She enjoyed a long and happy life and traveled frequently. She had a vibrant, youthful, and courageous demeanor. Mrs. Ginzel is survived by her daughters, Bronwen Murdock of Schenectady and Katherine of Camp Verde, AZ; her sister, Barbara Hovis of Somers, NY; and nieces, Jill Riverain and her husband, Patrice of New Rochelle, NY and Stella Hecht and her husband, Daniel of Montpelier, VT. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening, August 7, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Kazyaka Funeral Home, 819 Eastern Avenue. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be at St. Luke's in Somers at a date to be set.
