1863 - Peter Petersen - 1937 Peter Petersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Petersen, was born inGermany Dec. 26, 1863. His early childhood was spent in his homelandwhere his parents had dedicated in the Lutheran faith. In the spring of the year 1887 Mr. Petersen and his sister Catherineand brother Fred came to America, making their residence atSutherland, Iowa, It was on a farm near Sutherland that he spent mostof the following years. On Feb 11, 1891, he was united in holy matrimony with Dora Jebsen ofSutherland. To this happy union was born seven children: Alma, Amanda,Ella, William, Herman, George and Maymie. Many were the friendshipsestablished during the succeeding years and in the spring of 1933 Mr.and Mrs. Petersen moved to Calumet where they resided with theirdaughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Priegnitz. Here againnumerous friendships were established and his influence in thecommunity was greatly appreciated. About one year prior to his death Mr. Petersen had become less activein his regular work due to an illness which finally won over his goodhealth. Wednesday morning, Sept. 22nd, God deemed it wise to call him indeath, after he had attained the age of 73 years, 8 months and 26days. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and seven children: Mrs.Julius (Alma) Muhs, Mrs. John (Amanda) Rochel, both of Hartley, Iowa;Mrs. Arnold (Ella) Ahrens of Linn Grove, Iowa; William of Primghar,Iowa; George and Herman of Sutherland, Iowa; and Mrs. Rudolph (Maymie)Priegnitz of Calumet; two sisters Mrs. A. J. Sieh of Sutherland andMrs. Marie Lenger of Germany; two brothers, Claus of Primghar and Fredof DeSmet, S. Dak.; eleven grandchildren and a number of otherrelatives and friends.
