die Familie Nieß gehörte zu den eingesessenen Familien Dortmunds. Der Name taucht wiederholt auf, besonders an führenden Stellen der Wandschneider. „Es ist verständlich, wenn der zugereiste Hans Stisser in eine eingesessene Familie einheiratete. Vor 1475 begannen wieder Fehden zwischen Dortmund und Köln. Während oder danach brachen in Dortmund wiederholt Seuchen aus (um 1483 große Opfer durch Pest, Massengräber!). Wer es sich leisten konnte, verließ entsprechend der Damaligen Gepflogenheit die verseuchte Stadt und begab sich an andere Orte.“ (aus: Dr. Karlwilhelm Just: „Das mitteldeutsche Geschlecht Stisser von 1480 bis zur Gegenwart“; 1965, Starke Verlag, Limburg, Seite 6.
