Jahrhundert zurückgehende <strong>Schloss Merode</strong>, auch <strong>Schloss Mérode</strong>, liegt im Ortsteil <a title="Merode (Langerwehe)" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merode_(Langerwehe)"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Merode</span></a> der Gemeinde <a title="Langerwehe" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langerwehe"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Langerwehe</span></a> in <a title="Nordrhein-Westfalen" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordrhein-Westfalen"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Nordrhein-Westfalen</span></a> am nördlichen Rand der <a title="Rureifel" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rureifel"><spanstyle="color: #0563c1;">Rureifel</span></a>. Es gilt als eines der schönsten <a title="Wasserschloss (Gebäude)" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasserschloss_(Geb%C3%A4ude)"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Wasserschlösser</span></a> des <a title="Rheinland" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinland"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Rheinlands</span></a> im <a title="Renaissance"href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Renaissance</span></a>-Stil. Es befindet sich nachweislich seit 1174 bis heute im Besitz der Herren, späteren Grafen, heutigen Fürsten von <a title="Merode (Adelsgeschlecht)" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merode_(Adelsgeschlecht)"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Merode</span></a>. </span></p> <p> </p><p><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Die erste sichere Erwähnung erfolgte im Jahre 1170. Erbaut wurde die ursprüngliche Anlage von dem aus Kerpen stammenden königlichen Ministerialen Werner, der den Hof Echtz und das umliegende Land im 12. Jahrhundert von <a title="Friedrich I. (HRR)" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_I._(HRR)"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Kaiser Friedrich I. Barbarossa</span></a> zu <a title="Lehnswesen" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehnswesen"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Lehen</span></a> erhalten hatte. Er ließ an der Stelle des heutigen Wasserschlosses auf einer Rodung einen Sitz anlegen. Dies gab ihm und dem Ort den Namen. Aus dem lateinischen „de Rode“ und dem mittelhochdeutschen „van dem Rode“ bzw. „van me Rode“ leitet sich der heutige Name Merode ab. </span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Wie die erste Niederlassung Werners im 12. Jahrhundert aussah, ist nicht bekannt. Sicher war es ein kleines befestigtes Gutshaus. Die Bezeichnung „Castrum de Rode“ (Burg Merode) wird 1263 erstmals erwähnt. </span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Das heutige Erscheinungsbild des <a title="Schloss (Architektur)" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_(Architektur)"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Schlosses</span></a> geht zurück auf die intensive Bautätigkeit des <a title="Generalfeldmarschall" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalfeldmarschall"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Feldmarschalls</span></a> <a title="Jean Philippe Eugène de Merode-Westerloo" href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Philippe_Eug%C3%A8ne_de_Merode-Westerloo"><span style="color: #0563c1;">Jean Philippe Eugène de Merode-Westerloo</span></a> zu Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts. Sein Grabstein befindet sich in der Kapelle des Schlosses. Jh. und umfasste damals die DörferEchtz, Geich, Obergeich, Konzendorf, Schlich, D´horn und Merode.</span></p> <p> </p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;"><span style="color: #333333; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: DE;">Werner I. (um 1170) und seine Nachfolger Werner II. (um 1220) und Werner III. (gest. 1278) stellten imengeren Kreis mit weiteren Aachener Reichsdienstmannen eine starke Präsenz der Reichsgewalt um die «königliche Villa» in Düren und «der Pfalz» in Aachen. Doch mit der immer schwächer werdenden Stellung des Kaisers verselbständigten sich die Merode noch im selben Jahrhundert.</span></p> <p> </p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;"><span style="color: #333333; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: DE;">Werner III. trat oft in der Umgebung des Grafenvon Jülich auf. Er fühlte sich zeitlebens eng mit ihm verbunden, offen bleibt, ob er dabei mehr seine eigene politische Rolle spielte oder nur Parteigänger Wilhelms IV. (1219-1278) war.1348 entließ Kaiser Karl IV. (1316-1387) die Meroder Herrschaft aus der Lehnshoheit des Reiches und unterstellte sie den Herzögen von Jülich. Den Verlust der Reichsunmittelbarkeit haben die Meroder den Herzögen von Jülich gegenüber immer nur partiell anerkannt, und sie verstanden es, mehr als 400 Jahre lang (bis zum Untergang des alten Reiches) innerhalb des Jülicher Staatenverbandes eine Sonderstellung zu bewahren.</span></p> <p> </p>
