Notes for this person
Bergman Exley’s farm was west of Ebenezer near the present day Mill Pond Road. His land was approximately half of the land owned by his father, Jacob. Bergman’s brother, Cramer, owned the other half. According to family tradition, Bergman Exley was very enterprising and a hard worker. But Christmas of 1887 was a time of sadness for the Bergman Exley family. Jake, the oldest son, was just eight years old. Jack was six; Sol, five; Bernice, nearly two; and Katie was a few months from birth. Five days before Christmas, Bergman Exley died in a timber-cutting accident. Eventually, the family moved to Savannah.
