John T. Grieselding, 79, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., formerly of Tiffin, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 18, 2008, surrounded by his children at his daughter's residence in Maumee.
Oct. 18, 1929, he was born in Tiffin to Joseph and Theresa (Willman) Grieselding. He married Marilyn L. Karle Jan. 7, 1956.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Grieselding of Perrysburg and Michael (Celine) Grieselding of Holland; two daughters, Teri Grieselding of Maumee and Diane (Coby) Krill of Bowling Green; two sisters, Annabelle Straub of Tiffin and Rita Warner of Fostoria; and seven grandchildren, Derek and Dylan Grieselding of Perrysburg, Cameron, Alec and Karlee Grieselding of Holland and Hayley and Ty Krill of Bowling Green.
Preceding him in death are his parents and wife, Marilyn, who died Aug. 1, 2005.
John was a 1947 graduate of Calvert High School and Toledo University College of Pharmacy. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1950, serving during the Korean War until 1952.
In 1955, he started San-Mar Pharmacy with his wife. It was originally on the corner of Sandusky and Market streets, then moved to Jackson Street in 1961, where he continued to operate the business with his partner, Bob Hunt, until his retirement in 1990.
John and his wife lived in Florida for the last 20 years. He was an entrepreneur, owning many businesses in Ohio, Michigan and Florida.
John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 608, Archbishop Schrembs Assembly 4th Degree, Amvets Post 48 in Tiffin, and Tiffin and Port Clinton Moose Lodges.
John formerly was on the board of directors for The First Bank of Tiffin and he served on multiple boards throughout the community, such as United Way and the Seneca County Health Board. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and traveling the world with his wife.
A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Walters as the celebrant. A rosary is to be prayed 15 minutes prior to Mass. Burial is to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family 2-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service is at 8:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Calvert Catholic School or donor's choice.
