Baptised May 1886 and witnessed by Ahrend at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The story is that he stepped on a nail, got tetnus and died of the infection at the age of 16.
The Cronicle, Mount Vernon, N. Y., December 10. 1897 (Friday).
Death Caused By Rusty Nail.
Herman Rohrs, the 16year old son of Herman Rohrs, Sr., who resides near Chester Park, died on Sunday from the effects of a slight scratch. Saturday the lad, while splitting some wood, received a scratch on the palm of his hand from a rusty nail.He immediately went to Dr. Fanning's in New Rochelle who cauterised the wound and gave young Rohrs an application with which to wash it. This failed to have the desired effect and the young man began to experience great pain. Dr. Finch, also ofNew Rochelle, was summoned but he could do nothing to better the condition of the sufferer. Blood-poisoning set in and soon lockjaw developed. Rohrs died suffering intense pain on Sunday.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon. A short service was held at the house and another at the German Methodist Church, New Rochelle. The interment was in Beechwood Cemetery.
