DERRYBERRY, WALLACE E. (Derry) Died August 11, 2011. He was born in Bergman, Arkansas on Jan. 1, 1921, son of Ernest and Essie Derryberry. He attended Arkansas State College, where he learned to fly. He joined the Navy in 1942 and received his wings in March 1943. His toursof duty were in the Pacific, in the Black Cat Squadron. He returned to the states with 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 5 Air medals. In 1946, his orders took him to Miami, where he was a member of the 1st Hurricane Squadron. There he met his wife of 62 years, the late Harriett Derryberry (nee Vascou). He is survived by his daughter Jean Cohen (husband Mitchell) and their 2 children, Lindsay Jackson and David Cohen, daughter Donna Hesson (husband Tom) and their son Brian andby great-granddaughter Avery Jackson. His ashes will be interred ata later date in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola, FL or the Salvation Army. Visitation will be Monday, August 15, 2011 from 5 pm – 7pm at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, East Altamonte Chapel, 994 E. Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701.

Burial of ashes will be at a later date. Visitationwill be held August 15, 2011 at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, East Altamonte Chapel in Altamonte Springs, FL. Published in the Orlando Sentinel on August 14, 2011. Burial ceremony took place on December 2, 2011 with full Military Honors per his daughter, Donna and his wife is also buried with him.
