The ancestors of the Drysdales in thisneighbourhood(Tillicoultry) are said to be Thomas, William, andJamesDouglas, sons of Thomas of Brushwood Haugh, parishDrysdale(Dryfesdale), Dumfriesshire, who , concerned in a bloodyfight in1503, fle d to the Ochils and took the name Drysdale,theirnative parish; descendants included Symon Drysdale of HaughofDollar in 1620, Robert Drysdale of Tillicoultr y in 1708;AlexDrysdale began business in 1836 and built a spinning millatDevonsil e, retiring in 1871 when his son James tookover;brothers William, John (d 1854) and Robert (d 1852)Drysdale ranth e Boll mill; in 1860 the finishing works of MrRobert Drysdalewere erected.
