Found him working on farm in Wayne Co., TN (Where he later married Lydia Hardy) for a Alvis B. CLENDENIN. This must be him (1880 Cencus) Brother of Lyddia was killed also (Mathew) Cant find no proof !!! Newspaper does not list a HARDY as being killed in the accident ??? The Town of Pinkney only excisted; Pinkney,Lawrence1888-1919 Pinkney, Tennessee Mine Tipple Collapse May 1897 TEN PERSONS KILLED. Fatal Collapse of a New Ore Tipple in Tennessee A terrible disaster occurred at the Pinkney (Tenn.) ore mines. The new tipple, or ore dump, sixty feet high, fell, killing ten white men and boys outright and seriously wounding several others. The killed are JOSE REMINGTON, “CALL” KILBURN, “WILL” KILBURN, “JIM” BROWN and his eleven-year-old son, “CAL” HARRIS, LANDIN HARRIS, RICHARD HARDWICK, “MATT” CROW and “JIM” CROW. Nine men were seriously injured, and at least half of them fatally. All of the killed and wounded were on top of the tipple when it collapsed. Only two escaped without serious injuries. One young man, seeing his danger in time, jumped twenty feet to a tree, and escaped with slight scratches. Another jumped to the ground, turning over several times, and alighted on his foot, only spraining his ankle. The cause of the collapse is unknown. The dump was a new one and was tested with twenty cars of ore less than a month ago. There was only a small weight on it when it fell. The mines where the disaster occurred belong to J. Craig McLanahan. The Cranbury Press New Jersey 1897-05-21
