Notes for this person
This photograph of William Fletcher Fite and his family was taken in the late 1800's/early 1900's. ROW 1: William Fletcher Fite, Mary Catherine Lentz Fite, Evelina Fite, Robenia Clementine Fite; ROW 2: Edwin Newel Fite, Lee Alexander Fite, Arthur Wilson Fite, Francis Jefferson Fite, John William Fite, Emma Joyce Fite Elias, William Fletcher and Peter Francis Fite: 3 Brothers in the 3rd Tennessee: Elias, William and Peter Fite descended from a soldiering family. Their father, Jacob, had served in the War of 1812 and their Grandfather, Peter had fought in the Battle of King's Mountain during the Revolutionary War. So, when Governor Isham G. Harris made his plea for troops, the Fite boys answered the call without haste. At the time of their enlistment in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Elias was 36, William; 26 and Peter was 21 years old. All three fought through every battle of the 3rd Tennessee, endured the hardship of the dreaded northern prisons and witnessed firsthand the horror of war. It is amazing, given the odds of being a casualty in this war, that all three survived but, they did. All three brothers lived out their lives here until their passing. Elias was the first to go, in 1898 at age 73, William passed at age 74 and Peter died on the 23rd of June, 1920 at age 80. (contributed by Claude Fly, descendant of the Fite Brothers)
