They resided in Hohenwald, Tennessee on part of the Floyd homestead near the Trace Creek area. Carmack served in World War II and survived the Battle of the Bulge. When he returned from the war, he was elected county highway commissioner. Carmack and "Gusty" have two sons: Jerry Floyd of Hohenwald, TN & Eddie Floyd of Columbia, TN.
