[Bill's Nutt.FTW] Irish descent. Polly's book (see source) presents extensive information about Sadie, her mother. She states on page 9: "The Dohers, my mother's family, were just as Irish as the Spences, the McBrides , and the Cullens; they just didn't feel the same way about it. The "ty" was dropped from Doherty upon the family's arrival in America, and to this day my relatives who bear the name insist that it be pronounced Doo-er, not Doe-er. The name change could hardly have been Michael Doher's idea..." She was named after her father's sister, Sarah.
