Notes for this person
Birth: Dec. 15, 1875 Trace Creek Lewis County Tennessee, USA Death: 1901 Trace Creek Lewis County Tennessee, USA Mary Doan was the first child of 9, born to Dillahunt & Vicie Ann Carter Turnbow. Vicie Ann was the daughter of John & Ann Simms Carter of nearby Carter Hollow, just outside Linden, TN. It is said that Mary Doan died abt 15 years old of either scarlet fever or typhoid. Her sister Bernice's life would also end with the same fate/fatal illness. All but two of Mary Doan's siblings (Bernice & Commodore), would move with their parents to Texas - by 1924. Mary Doan's sister Bernice, was born March 18, 1886. Tommy T born - Feb, 1891. My grandfather Jeff Dillahunt Turnbow was Dillahunt & Vicie's 7th chiild, born July 15, 1888. He passed May 13, 1941, buried in Catonville cemetery in Red River co., TX. Jeff Dillahunt married my grandmother Mattie Ann Brown Turnbow, born May 22, 1893. She was buried in Willow cemetery, Haskell Co., TX, Nov 19, 1976. Mattie Ann was the daughter of Walter & Martha Brown, both buried in the Dabbs Cemetery, Lewis Co., Tenn, as well as Walter's father, Thomas Brown, and grandfather Walter Brown, Sr. The Walter & Martha Brown homestead bordered the Turnbow homestead, here at Trace Creek. This is how my grandparents met/knew each other. Jeff Dillahunt would move his family, and mother Vicie, to TX in 1924. Most of his descendents today live in TX: Haskell, Wichita Falls, Fort Worth area, Austin-San Antonio area, Abilene, Midland; as well as Louisiana and California. Jeff and Mattie Ann had 11 children. My father Bob is their youngest. He married my mother Finnice Imogene Walker Turnbow, Aug 9, 1961. Since that time, my family has enjoyed making a few trips back to the old Turnbow Homeplace at Trace Creek. I have always admired the scenery there. This entire area, along with our family cemetery is such a beautiful, peaceful place in which I will always cherish all of my life -as well as hope to return & visit more in the future.
