Birth: Oct. 15, 1804 Ashe County North Carolina, USA Death: Mar. 10, 1888 Des Moines County Iowa, USA Biography, 1873: David Feese was born October 15, 1804, in Ash County, Carolina. His father moved from there when David was quite young, and his boyhood days were passed in Kentucky. His parent's names were Jacob Feese and Sallie Grimes, who had twelve children, six sons and six daughters, and David was the oldest but two. His parents were farmers, and died in this state. He was early taught to work and to feel that his success in life would depend on his own exertions, and that industry, integrity and economy should at all hazards be his rule of conduct. His early education amounted to nothing, but he always has been a close observer and possesses a memory very retentive. Mr. Feese left Kentucky in 1830 and came to McDonough County, Illinois where he resided for a space of about four years, engaged in agricultural pursuits. In 1827 he was united in marriage to Lucinda Hill, a native of Kentucky, by whom he has had 15 children, two of whom are dead. In 1834 he left McDonough County, Illinois and came to Iowa and settled on Section 27, Flint River Township, Des Moines County, where he has since resided, and most likely will pass the balance of his days. He started in life poor, and well understands the value of self-acquired experience and property, and is now enjoying the comforts of a good home that his own exertions acquired. His farm contains about 250 acres of the best soil. Mr. and Mrs. Feese have taken great interest in the rearing of their children. They have all received that attention which good parents show their offspring. In politics Mr. Feese has always been a Democrat. He first voted for General Jackson, and also for Stephen A. Douglas. He has always been enthusiastic in his admiration for that democracy of which Jackson and Douglas were the honorable and patriotic exponents. In religion he is rather disposed to identify himself with the Cambellite Church. In society he is very pleasant and affable. He has done a great deal of hard work, but his constitution is yet rugged, and with the exception of rheumatism, he has always enjoyed good health. He is very hospitable, and that hospitality and generous nature for which the people of the South and West have always been distinguished, find in him a very practical illustration. Mr. Feese is a man well respected by his neighbors. We find him today surrounded by family and friends, enjoying that contentment and comfort that those who have devoted a life to industry and economy have a right to expect.
