Birth: Dec. 26, 1928 Minneapolis Hennepin County Minnesota, USA Death: Aug. 1, 2012 Paradise Butte County California, USA Mom was a beautiful, strong woman who had a endless heart of love for those around her. As a joke, mom often told us how perfect she was, and over the years I learned just how perfect mom really was. My favorite place, as a child, was to crawl up into her lap with a blanket over my head and fall asleep. My safe haven from the world. I can't tell you just how often I returned to that safe haven. I had out grown the lap but learned mom always had an ear for me. As I grew older and moved away I learned that a quick phone call to mom was the band aid that I quite frequently needed! Mom was born and raised in Minneapolis Minnesota. Born to Walter Kleinsteuber and Edna Challis Kleinsteuner. She had one older brother Walter "Wally" Jr. Mom had a very comfortable childhood in a loving family. In 1942, when she was 13 mom lost her father and brother to a boating accident. I think this is how mom learned to be so strong. Her mother and her learned to rely on each other and to provide for themselves. Mom graduated high school in 1947 and went on to earn an associates degree at the Univeristy of Minnesota in Liberal Arts. In 1952 Mom and Grandma (Edna) moved to California to be closer to family. They eventually settled in San Diego and it was there that mom got a job as one of the first Key Punch Operators for IBM. Mom met dad in 1957 and was married on June 14, 1958. While in San Diego Catherine and Robert were born. They moved to Santa Barbara and Susan was born in 1967. In 1968, dad's job transferred him to Chico California. They chose to live in Paradise because the trees reminded mom of Minnesota. This is where they raised their family. Mom was lucky enough to be a housewife most of their married life. We kids kept her busy but she still found time to knit beautiful sweaters for her kids, grand kids and friends. Mom was a very talented seamstress and quilter as well. After all of us children were gone mom became very involved with her church humanitarian efforts. The women got together each week and quilted blanket and made humanitarian aid packets that were sent all over the world. I think that all the women just enjoyed getting together and chatting but they sure do get things done. They were recognized as the most productive humanitarian unit the LDS Church had. Mom I love you! I will miss you as well as the grand kids. You have always been a light for me as well as the "perfect" example of all I want to be. You were loved by all!
