Birth: Jan. 23, 1855 Coshocton County Ohio, USA Death: Oct. 24, 1907 Coshocton County Ohio, USA Father: Samuel Fry Mother: Dorcas (Cullison) Fry Spouse: Hannah Melissa (Almack) Fry Coshocton Weekly Times Thursday, 31 October 1907 ARMOR JAMES FRY Top of Head Blown Off Armor J. Fry, who lived about two miles east of New Guilford, lost his life by the accidental discharge of a shot gun in his own hands at about 7:30 o'clock last night. The entire top of his head was blown off and death resulted instantly. Dogs were barking and he went to investigate. In getting his gun from under the bed it was accidentally discharged. Intimations of suicide have been made to the Times, but there is no evidence to warrant the belief. James Donacher, his daughter, Maude, and son, Charles, had supper with Mr. & Mrs. Fry and their son and his wife, who live with them. After the meal had been finished the company were all seated in the kitchen talking. The dogs began barking furiously in the road and Mr. Fry thinking they treed some animal went into a bedroom which opened from the Kitchen. Shortly after the barking was renewed with much vigor and Mr. Fry and his wife both went into the room but could see nothing. The dogs continued to bark and Mr. Fry went again to investigate the trouble. He had a loaded shot gun which he kept under the bed in his room and the supposition is that he saw something on his third trip which caused him to get the gun from under the bed. The people in the kitchen heard the loud report of a gun in the next room and running to investigate found the body of the already dead man lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The sight was a horribly ghastly one. The entire top of Mr. Fry's head had been blown off and his brains were scattered over the room. It was at once seen that the man was beyond human aid and he was gently laid on the bed. Later, the coroner was summoned. Many explanations of HOW THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED Have been made but only one seems to be approximately correct. In getting the gun from under the bed it is thought that the hammer or trigger in some way became entangled in some of the bedding and caused the discharge of the weapon. With the discharge of the gun, he was thrown across the room, taking the gun with him. When he was found he was lying on his back and the weapon was lying on his left side. The contents of the gun had entered at a point just above the right ear and had carried the entire top of the head with it against the wall opposite. Mr. Fry was about fifty years of age. He owned a farm of 50 acres and was well-to-do. He leaves his wife and two sons. Both of the sons are married, one living with him and the other, Burrel Fry, who resides in Coshocton. He was a much respected and influential man in this section of the county and there are many who are saddened by his death. The funeral will be held at the Wilson Chapel church at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning with Rev. Cornell officiating. The interment will be made in the Chapel cemetery. 52 years 9 months 1 day.
