He paid Jonathan Griffith seventeen pounds Pensylvania currency for this property "1768 PETITION. In 1768, Samuel Mannon, a resident of Baltimore County, signed a petition to remove the county seat from Joppa to Baltimore. The English version of the petition began with the following words: "To His Excellency Horatio Sharpe, Esquire, Governor and Commander in Chief in and over the Province of Maryland, and, To the Honorable the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly of the said Province: The Petition of the Subscribers, Inhabitants of Baltimore County, Humbly Sheweth, That the present Court-House for Baltimore County, situate in Joppa, is considerably too small for transacting therein the Business of the County with Convenience . . . ." Numerous petitions were circulated, and Petition No. 34 was signed by Samuel Mannon and 50 other men. On this petition was endorsed "Handed by Daniel Bowers." Petition No. 34 was on an English-German broadside printed form.
