Hiram R. Wells Enlisted from Owen County State of Indiana, on the 28th day of August, 1862. In Company “K” 97th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers Infantry. Which was assigned to the Second Brigade, First Division, Fifteenth Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee And participated in the following engagements: And was discharged June 9th, 1865. Mission Ridge, near Chattanooga, Tenn Nov _, 1863 Raising the Siege at Knoxville, Tennessee 1863 Resaca, Georgia May, 1864 Kenesaw Mountain, Georgia June 5, 1864 Dallas, Georgia May, 1864 Newhope Church House, Georgia June, 1864 Kenesaw Mountain, Georgia June 29, 1864 In front of Atlanta, Georgia July 22, 1864 Jonesborough, Georgia Aug 31, 1864 Lovejoy Station, Georgia Sept . 1864 Marched with General W. T. Sherman’s Army to the sea. After his discharge from the Army returned to his home, having laid down the implements of warfare, he become at once engaged in farming, and took up the peaceful industries of life, and become one of the most prominent and noted men of the County. Strictly honest in all his dealings with his neighbors, raised a respectable family of boys who are making themselves useful in the various occupations of life, and are men of notoriety, and respected by all who knows them. Through many years of hard labor and use of economy, he and his companion in life, have become comfortably situated, he owns about, or over, two hundred acres of land, in a good state of cultivation, commodious houses and barns, orchards of fruit trees numbering over, or about, seven hundred, he has gathered in one season about fifteen hundred bushels of apples.
