Birth: 1668 Falmouth Barnstable County Massachusetts, USA Death: Jun. 9, 1764 East Haddam Middlesex County Connecticut, USA Mary Crippen, dau. of Thomas Crippen and his wife Frances, b. at Falmouth, Mass. on or before June 9, 1668. She d. June 9, 1764 at East Haddam, Conn., Æ 97. On Jan. 28, 1691/2 at Saybrook, Conn., Mary, then of Haddam, m. Samuel Corbe, of Saybrook. He d. intestate Apr. 10, 1694 at Haddam, Conn. [Manwaring, 1:430.] They had the following two children recorded in the East Haddam vital records, which misstate both Samuel's date of death and the birthdates of his two children: • i. Mary Corbe, b. Nov. 13, 1692, bapt. Dec. 24, 1704; no further record known to the memorialist. • ii. Samuel Corbe, Jr., b. posthumously Dec. 10, 1694, bapt. Dec. 24, 1704 and d. Sept. 15, 1757 at East Haddam; m. Jan. 21, 1724/5 at East Haddam, Abigail, whose maiden name is unknown. She d. Nov. 19, 1764 at East Haddam. No identified children. Mary subsequently m. before Jan. 2, 1733/4 as his 2nd wife, Moses Rowley, Jr., s. of Moses Rowley and Elizabeth Fuller, b. Nov. 10, 1654 at Barnstable, Mass. He d. testate July 16, 1735 at East Haddam, Æ 81 [Manwaring, 3:194]. There are no known children of the marriage. Moses first m. a Mary, often called nee Fletcher, by whom he had ten children. His will dated Mar. 24, 1734/5 does not make any mention or provision for his wife. If his first wife Mary, the mother of all of his children, was then living she would have been entitled by law to 1/3 of Moses' estate. On the other hand, on Jan. 2, 1733/4 before Moses wrote his will: "I, Mary Rowlee, the wife of Moses Rowlee, Sen., of Haddam, do acquit my husband and his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns, from all joyntures, dowryes and agreements whatsoever hereafter may arise, having received the full sum of ten pounds." [Manwaring, 3:195] This indicates that Mary nee Corbe and Moses Rowley, Jr. must have had an agreement before marriage by which she as his wife was to receive a certain sum of money versus land or other property at his death, the agreement fulfilled by virtue of her receipt a year prior to his death. That Mary nee Corbe was formerly the 2nd wife of Moses Rowley, Jr. is further confirmed by the 1757 will of her son Samuel Corbe at East Haddam, in which Samuel mentions among others "my Honored mother Mary Rowlee." He further provided that "Azariah Heath that now lives with me, who is to provide for the comfortable support of my mother, Mary Rowlee."
