I, Major James McCullough Crow, was horn in Florence, Alabama, March l6th, 1836 and married Mary Josephine Brandon May 1867. She was a daughter of Washington M. and Mary Munn Brandon. My wife died October 28, 1878 in Florence, Alabama. No better woman ever lived. Washington M. Brandon was a successful planter and manufacturer of cotton-goods. I served during the entire war between the States. I was a. Major, commanding the 9th Alabama Regiment Willcox's Old Brigade, Mahone’s Division, Army of Northern Virginia, and surrendered with General Robert E. Lee at Appomatox, Virginia, 9th day of April, 1865. I was in nearly all the battles fought by the Army of North¬ ern Virginia in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.. Willcox’s Brigade made the last charge that was made at Gettysburg. There is a marker on the battle field at Gettys¬ burg with the inscription "High-Water Mark of the Confederacy, Willcox's Alabama Brigade."
