Während der letzten Tage des 2. Weltkrieges stand Bruno Schmude mit einer Gruppe von Hausbewohnern vor dem Haus Muthesiusstr. 35 während eine Werfergranate auf dem Gehweg einschlug. Er wurde von einem Splitter am Kopf getroffen und verstarb zwei Tage später. Er wurde zunächst am Haus begraben und später auf den Matthäus-Kirchhof umgebettet (Kriegsgräber).
