Donald F. Koverman

Don Koverman is completing thirty two (32) years serving governmental, educational, and nonprofit organizations in both rural and urban environments. He has a broad range of experience in the areas of community/economic development, personnel/fiscal management, grants administration and strategic planning.

Koverman is currently serving as Senior Associate for the Purdue Center for Regional Development, Purdue University. His career experience has included working for the City of Indianapolis (14 years), as a city manager in rural Minnesota (11 years), on faculty with the University of Minnesota (2 years), Director of Community Development for the Southeast/South Central Minnesota Initiative Fund (a 20 county regional foundation), as a county plan director (2 years) for Morgan, Indiana, and as the Executive Director for the Indiana Rural Development Council (2 years).

Don holds a BA degree from Butler University and a MPA from Indiana University. In addition he has also earned post-graduate certificates from Indiana University and the University of Minnesota in fields of public management and community resources.

Lieutenant Governor Joe Kernan recently announced that Donald Koverman of Indianapolis will take over the helm of the Indiana Rural Development Council (IRDC).

Koverman's leadership will promote the council's outreach and assistance to rural Indiana communities. "Don brings an extensive background in community and economic development to Indiana," said Kernan, who serves as both the commissioner of Agriculture and director of the Indiana Department of Commerce.

Koverman currently serves as the plan director in Morgan, IN. He has also served as county extension director for Hennepin, MN.; community development director for the Southeast and South Central Minnesota Initiative Fund; and city administrator for Plainview, MN. He will assume his new position as IRDC executive director June 2.

Under the Indiana Department of Commerce's (IDOC) recent restructuring, the IRDC will transfer its offices from the Office of the Commissioner of Agriculture to IDOC in an effort to facilitate communication and access to resources provided by the department and the state.

Koverman earned a Bachelor degree from Butler University and a Master degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University. He also earned postgraduate certificates in community resources and public management concentrations from Indiana University and the University of Minnesota.
