John N. Griesbach, 94, of Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc, formerly of
518 Buffalo St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Parkside Funeral Home and 11 a.m.
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated by the Rev. William Zimmer and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Mr. Griesbach was born Jan. 17, 1888, in Marathon County, Wis., son of the late
Frederick and Margaret Schilling Griesbach. He owned and operated a farm in
Marathon County. In 1929, he moved to Manitowoc, where he had been employed at
Mirro Corporation, and later at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, retiring in 1953.
He married Helen Stiefvater Oct. 14, 1913, at Appleton. She preceded him in death
in 1966. Mr. Griesbach was past president of the Holy Name Society, a member of
Boilermakers Union Local No. 443, and an honorary member of Knights of Columbus
Council No. 710. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc,
the choir of the church, and the dart ball team of the church to which he
participated until the age of 85.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Betty Griesbach of Manitowoc;
five daughters and four sons-in-law, Monica and Ira Klabunde of Two Rivers, Helen
and Irving Johnson of Manitowoc, Alice and Willard Matthias of Cleveland, Betty
and Don Loughrin of Princeton, and Delores Engelbrecht of Manitowoc; two sisters,
Delia Griesbach of Cazenovia, Wis., and Mae Monks of Marshfield, Wis; 40 grand-
children, 54 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in
death by a son, two daughters and eight brothers and sisters.
Friendsmay call at Parkside Funeral Home from 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock this Wednesday
afternoon where a prayer service will be held at 8 o'clock by Father Zimmer, followed
by a Knights of Columbus CouncilNo. 710 memorial service.
