May 15, 1927 - Dec. 2, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Don Schmeckpeper was born into this life May 15, 1927, in Matteson, Illinois to Edwin A. Schmeckpeper and Helen M. Dettmering Schmeckpeper. He was born into eternal life on December 2, 2011. He will be remembered for his many avocations and occupations: Teacher, Hunter, Fisher, Gardner, Thespian, Beekeeper, Insurance Agent and Estate Planner, and the joy he brought in doing them. His outgoing personality, his wicked sense of humor, his boundless compassion, and his ability to give his full attention to you and your situation will be sorely missed by his Family, Friends, and Clients. Don waspreceded in death by his older sister and is survived by his four younger brothers and his youngest sister. Don joined the Navy after finishing High School to see the World. He got to see Corpus Christi, Texas instead. He graduated from the University of Illinois where he met and married the love of his life, Georgene (Jo) Fern Mracek Schmeckpeper MD,on June 16, 1951. To them were born five children: Karen Schmeckpeper (husband Ronaldo) of Galilee, Pennsylvania, Kurt Schmeckpeper (wife Barby) of Chandler, Arizona, Kyla Gay Schmeckpeper of Plano, Texas, Kathi McCree MD of League City, Texas, and Krista Short (husband Gary) of Fairfield, Ohio, who blessed them with a total of twelve grandchildren. Donworked as an Instructor and Supervisor of Instructors at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois until 1968 when he packed up the family and moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where Jo had been accepted to Medical School.Don joined Lutheran Brotherhood and began his career as an Insurance Agent and Estate Planner and traveling the length and breadth of Oklahoma. He had a lifelong dream to own a hunting estate which he accomplished by buying his ranch near Stroud, Oklahoma. Besides hunting & fishingduring every season, Don was working in many roles at Our Lord's Lutheran Church and he was playing in many roles at the Jewel Box Theatre. Don and Jo enjoyed their weekends with the Stone Soup Group and now thatDon has joined Jo, who made her trip to Heaven on March 12, 2009, we know the party will continue with enthusiasm. Don's family would like tothank John Morgan and Mary Sabree for the Love and Care they gave Don and Jo over both their later years.
